2023 US Men’s Clay Court Championships Preview
Frances Tiafoe, #14 in the ATP rankings, will lead the charge of the new American tennis guard in the 2023 U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships.
Six players from the United States are part of the top eight seeds of the tournament, therefore, the hope is that the title stays home. Some of them were in the pack that cause havoc in the past Australian Open.
Tiafoe got the #1 seed and is undoubtedly the best player in the tournament. He is the main candidate to win and the most in-tune.
He has been showing amazing performances that maybe in higher-level tournaments are not quite enough, but should be in this ATP 250 event.
Tommy Paul (#2 seed and #19 in the world) is also a strong name in the lineup. He has been climbing up in the rankings at an alarming speed.
After surprisingly reaching the semifinals in the Australian Open, he kept his performances up until he crosses the path of better-ranked players like Félix Auger-Aliassime in Indian Wells or Carlos Alcaraz in the Miami Open.
The 2022 NextGen champion, Brandon Nakashima (#3 and #45), will also be in the tournament and could have some chances.
The same goes for ultra-experienced veteran John Isner (#4 and #46), the most achieved player in the event.
At 37 years old, Isner is limited to his unstoppable serve, but even just with that he can cause damage and make deep runs. Not for nothing he has the most amount of aces in tennis history.
These four first seeds have a bye in the first round and will start their campaign in the Round of 16.
American J. J. Wolf (#5 and #50), Australian Jason Kubler (#6 and #70), also American Marcos Girón (#7 and #71), and Argentinian Tomás Martín Etcheverry (#8 and #73) are the other top seeds.
Champion Reilly Opelka will not be able to defend his title due to an injury.
